Our History

Pied Piper Preschool first opened over 50 years ago, and has been an important and much-loved part of the Wallerawang community and its surroundings ever since. We’ve been in our current lovely building (which was constructed by the community) since 1991, with the playground undergoing a wonderful renovation in 2013. The preschool sits atop the hill in Wallerawang, with fantastic views over Lake Wallace (Wang Dam).

We provide high quality preschool education for children aged 3-5 years. We also provide a 2 year old session for younger children on Wednesday mornings.

We follow the Australian Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) which has learning through play and relationships at its foundation. We believe that children should be able to be children, with opportunities to explore, discover and understand the world around them, and to communicate, imagine and create. These things are at the very heart of a Pied Piper day.

As a community-based preschool, we are licensed by the Department of Education and Communities for 39 children every day, and a managed by a parent management committee. As a requirement of our license and regulations, all our educators hold early childhood qualifications. We have higher than required numbers of educators to children, which is recognized as an important contributing factor towards quality in an early childhood service. In 2016 we were rated as Exceeding the National Quality Standard for the high quality of care and education that we provide.

Our Funding and Licensing

We are licensed and funded by the NSW Department of Education. We receive annual funding from the Department which funds our operations. This funding however does not cover the full cost of operating the preschool and we charge fees to make up the balance.

The Preschool is regulated by the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011, The Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care. Copies of these documents are available in the preschool foyer if you are interested in looking at them.
